Search Plugin Redesign

Redesigned a 5+ year old e-commerce search plugin from scratch: visual overhaul, new AI-powered features,

and a component library that didn't previously exist. The library was later adopted by designers across other studios.

Problem

The search plugin hadn't been touched visually in over five years. It worked, but it looked it. As the company began selling to enterprise clients, the gap between what the plugin looked like and what enterprise expected became impossible to ignore.

Key issues:

no design system

no Figma components

no shared library

Opportunity

New features were already being prioritized collaboratively with the team: AI-powered guided questions, new search result patterns, quick view. Rather than design new features on top of an outdated foundation, I pushed for doing it right: full visual redesign + component library, shipped together.

This wasn't an assigned project. I saw the window and made the case.

Solution

Redesign

Rebuilt the entire plugin visually: search bar, filters, result cards, navigation, quick view, product detail page, comparison, and guided questions. Both square and round variants, configurable properties, all states.

Component Library

Created Zoovu's first ever Figma component library for the search plugin. All components built with proper variants, properties, and auto layout,

so developers and other designers had a real source of truth for the first time.

AI-Powered Guided Questions

Collaboratively prioritized with the team and designed as part of the new plugin: a contextual question flow that helps users narrow down results based on their actual use case (e.g. "What will you primarily use the smartphone for?").

Quick View with AI Chat

A product modal that lets users explore details, variants, and reviews without leaving the search results page. Includes an "Ask AI" tab with contextual suggested questions — so users can get instant answers about the product before deciding to buy.

Impact

Shipped & adopted at scale

Plugin shipped to production and adopted by enterprise clients, including Straumann – a deal that made search a strategic priority across the company

A design system built from zero

Component library built from scratch became the shared foundation used by designers and developers across partner studios
